Cruisin...

So glad so many of you enjoyed the first run of "Weekend Wogan", it's been great fun to do. We've had terrific guests, and the live music has been sensational. Hats off to Elio Pace, singers and band. We knew they were good, but they've been a revelation. Every Sunday, they've lifted the roof, and the show. John Marsh, "Boggy" the Fisherman's Friend, has not only contributed to "Janet and John", he's whipped the audience to a frenzy with his knockabout warm-ups... The show has added 20% to the audience for Sunday 11 to 1, an extra 500,000. Or a million ears, if you like. The Red Button "Best Bits" got a viewing audience of over a million... So, as we surge into Summer, we'll try even harder to get bigger and better on "Weekend Wogan". Be there, on June 13th! I'm off to join the Togs on the bounding main, raising money for "Children in Need", but managing to enjoy ourselves just a little bit, as well. Splice the mainbrace!

Hey Tel!
It was good listening to you on your weekend show, although it really felt like television on the radio and I’m sure when you were “doing it” on the telly, they said it was like doing radio on the telly.
It just goes to show what goes around, comes around ……. again and again and again

Millicent Grumble says:

It was great to hear Glen Campbell last week. My old Dad still has a box set of his cassettes that used to be played constantly on our Panasonic Music Centre in the 70s.I always used to cry when “Puff the Magic Dragon” came on. Anyway bon voyage Sir Terry and all the TOGS. If Boggy is aboard I expect an around the clock watch to keep him away from the ship’s bridge.

Mahatt Micoat says:

Is Boggy driving the boat?
If he is I doubt you’re on the bounding main yet but instead are going round in (ever decreasing) circles in the harbour ! ;-D

B. Keeper says:

Dear Sir Terry,
Your programme’s great on the radio, but even better in the flesh (as it were). Mrs. K. and I will be putting our names down for another two tickets next time round.
It’s no good thinking that you will escape the Ant and Dec – sorry, Dave and Nick – Show by running away to sea. They will still be here when you get back. Mind out for the ash but bring come back; it will do for the sack-cloth and ashes due to hit us any time now.
Cynical? Me?
TTFN. xx from Mrs K.

Chuffer Dandridge says:

What Ho, Me Old Scourge of the Seven Seas,

Love the show Steve! Would it be too much to hope that Katie Melua gets a regular spot?
Saw you on telly last weekend interviewing Pete Murray and do you know, if anything you look younger now! And isn’t it wonderful to know that the British voters love Jedward so much that they’ve voted their own version into Number 10? You’re on the open sea,eh? 12 years before the mast! Do ‘em the dirty, Skipper! Make sure all the TOGs get their rum ration!

Cheery Pip,

Chuffer Dandridge

Susan K. says:

Terry, as you’re the only person I know on the show, can you pull some strings to get me some tickets for your next series of Weekend Wogan. I have applied for most dates on the web site, any dates will do, but knowing someone on the inside can always help!

I don’t want you to feel old but I have been listening to you since pre ‘poison dwarf’ days. You’ve seen me through teenage years, boyfriend years, work years, married years, mother years, I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, at you with you………..phew, and I’m still listening!! It’s all in the voice. Lovely, soft, gentle, it’s a hug in a voice. What more can I say.

Anyway, about those tickets………..

Susan x

Mahatt Micoat says:

A bit of advice Sir Tel, do NOT go looking for the golden rivet with any of those rough looking sailor types !

* taps nose in a knowing sort of way *

;-)
Markapen says:

Sir Tel,
Thoroughly enjoyed the show on radio, but more so on the red button, where the ample attributes of those wonderful singers can be more clearly seen. Any chance of an introduction to the blonde on the right as I look at the screen?
I have my own hedge trimmer & extendable pole (always greased & ready for action), which makes me something of a catch around these parts.
Tell her I am allowed out Tuesdays & Thursdays but have to be back by 9pm to make Mrs Pen’s cocoa.
If she says no (!!??) either of the other two will do.
See what you can sort out.

Basildon Basilisk says:

Just a note to let you know that while you were away, the economy collapsed and we are all living in mud huts with only a radio to get information. Don’t feel guilty about enjoying yourself while reality crumbles.

Kristina Moore says:

Oh thank goodness there is a place where sanity reigns on radio, red button and most especially here! You all make my day. Thank you.
A life on the ocean wave…….. etc.

Bob Garner says:

Hi Terry, As an English expatriate I had great pleasure from watching my Norwegian colleagues listening to you reading out a couple of my letters in 79/80 (20th century in case you were wondering) and would just like to let you know that I still think of you when I find myself thinking “Is it me?” which is why I checked out your new website tonight, but that’s another story. (I’m not yet a member of TOGS but probably should be!). As Norway are now still celebrating their 3rd win in the ESC and waiting for thier 4th next week I would just like to say that I miss tuning into BBC for your pithy comments. Anywhere I can hear them this year? Do you know that no-one in the history of ESC has ever said “Null point to …..”

crookey says:

So you’re off on the bounding main …
To cause matelots lickspittling pain …
But if you want to thrive …
Don’t let Boggy drive …
Or you’ll never get home again …

Steeped in the lore of the sea …
It’s the place you ought to be …
But while up and down you are bobbing …
Toggy hearts will be throbbing …
Worried about your dodgy knee.

Dot Cooper says:

When will the show be back – I really miss it – please please please tell me there is going to be more!

Matt says:

It’s that time of year again – the Eurovision just isn’t the same without you!!!

Bet your attending a Eurovision party tho….!!!

Edina Cloud says:

Are you nearly home yet? Made it out of Southampton?
By the way, room keys don’t work in the Little Chef,as Lucy and I found out today!!!

Ian Oze-n-Throat says:

Hi there Cap’n – are you still rocking after the excellent TOGS Cruise? The present Mrs Langley is; or maybe it’s just the effect of all that Cunard champagne? Words cannot do justice to the excellent experience that is a ‘TOGS Cruise’ – here’s to the next one! Heartfelt thanks must go to Helen & Norman, Janet & John, Charles (What’s that big red lorry doing behind me?), Deadly, Rev. Ruth (Did I really use the ‘C’ word?), Edina, Lucy, et al and of course, Cunard and, last but not least, yourself and Lady Wogan. We can’t wait to hear your dulcid tones again on 13th June. It’s great to know that the TOGS are alive and well and looking forward to ALLOA!

Togmeister says:

“Weekend Wogan” is back, all bells, whistles and jelly-babies to placate the unruly, next Sunday, the 13th July. That mighty man of music, Elio Pace and his strolling Players, will whip the crowd into the requisite frenzy,a necessity, since Boggy Marsh has warmed them up into somnolence…Narita Pallot, last year’s dynamic musical discovery, the Fly himself,American actor Jeff Goldblum, and Dickadumdum Des O’Connor. He’s threatening to sing ! Lock up your daughters! 11 to 1 next Sunday, live and throbbing from the BBC Radio Theatre. Miss it at your peril….

Edina Cloud says:

Oh boy!! Desperate O’Connor——singing!! What would Eric and Ernie say???

Hellen Bach says:

AND the latest radio 2 Janet & John cd is now available on

Good to see you back Sir Terry, it was fun on the Togs Voyage!

Phil Monty says:

Good to see you’re so excited STW that you’ve put the show back by a month ( I refer to your post just above!) Anyway who needs timechecks. You’re back.June/July 13th whenever!!

Chuffer Dandridge says:

Looking forward to the show. STW, Boggy Marsh, Jeff Goldblum and Des O’Connor! What I could have done with a cast like that! And Nerina Pallot. I knew her father Jackie!
