Counting Chickens

Too early for chicken-counting, but every Sunday, when the dust has settled on "Weekend Wogan", I think, "Well, we'll have a hard time topping that next week", and blow me down, we do! Okay, I'm biaised, and I'll admit that our Sunday madcap musical mélanges are the best fun I have all week, and I'm both astounded and thrilled that what was a germ of an idea has grown into everything I hoped it would be. And then I hear from so many of you that are watching it on this web-site and bbc.co.uk/radio2, and it all seems beyond my hopes for the show.... Griff Rhys Jones was every interviewers dream last Sunday. What a wonderfully cheerful, witty personality. Mick Hucknall and Katrina not only sang wonderfully, but talked wittily and well. And what about Elio Pace? The man's the gem in the diadem... How good will he be with Albert Lee, next Sunday?...And guess who's talking? Sheila Hancock, one of our grandest theatrical dames, who, neath the piercing gaze of the Lord himself, is to help select "Dorothy" from thousands of hopefuls and send her and Toto down the Yellow Brick Road to Oz, and fame and fortune... John Marsh got down to the last 10 for the role of the Cowardly Lion... 11 to 1 next Sunday, Radio 2.

Millicent Grumble says:

We must remember to put our clocks forward one hour, wouldn’t want to miss the start of the show. Best to ensure that the Radio Theatre clocks are slightly out of sync with the Newsroom, it would be a shame for a slick midday handover to get in the way of a good chuckle. I’m beginning to think that there is an attempt to create enough “bloomers” to fill a bonus disc on a future Janet and John compilation.

Debonair says:

We know how good John Marsh is a skipping along the road ,and he likes dressing up, so maybe he’s auditioning for the wrong part. Do you think Janet has a nice pair of red shoes he could borrow and pretty frock? The beard could be a give away but I think his hair might go up into bunches. Can you see John as Dorothy……..? I can

Mrs Heather Agar says:

Great to be able to watch the video of Weekend Wogan – but why so short this week? Come on Radio 2, be fair!! Bad enough to be without Terry every day – oh how I miss him! – but for heavens’ sake dont do us out of watching his show whenever we like! Make it an hour at least please.

Togmeister says:

“Someone” ,somewhere in the inner recesses of the BBC decided to reduce the website coverage of the show to a half an hour. Naturally, nobody told me…Sorry you’ve been disappointed,if I can find anybody to tell me why,I’ll let you know….

Phil Monty says:

Re; above post by STW, it’ll be the same person who decided Wogan’s Web “didn’t really work” …despite it being well received by “the public”. Maybe the new show’s success isn’t following the script!! Or have I watched too many “X Files”? My advice: scan the audience for a mysterious man in black. ..acting silent but deadly. yes-Deadly.Never trusted him..too smooth by half.

Debonair says:

Sir Terry! Thank goodness for your best bits (even though they are short and sweet) on this select Blog. Why? I hear you ask. It’s AOL (no, not ELIO, I said AOL, my internet provider..) they think I’m in America and wont let me view via the BBC web site. I did manage to work my way in via the tradesman’s entrance, (several links to links etc) but it was so complicated I can’t remember what I did – pass me a mint someone!
Looking forward to W W number 7

Doctor Dance says:

Why on earth has it been decided to cut the video down to half an hour? The new show works brilliantly on radio – but it is a great show to watch too. Lets have more of it – not less, please…
What a great show again this week! I’m sure I can’t be the only person to think that the performance of “Country Boy” by Albert Lee and Elio Pace was nothing short of amazing. Don’t know what else to say, but it was magical!

Dikke Tummi says:

Ubertsturmbahnfuhrer – means that you hold a high rank in the “storm railway”. However, if you are wearing a “brown shirt” you might be a Ubersturmbannfuhrer!!

I enjoy the show on Sunday and I can watch or listen later if I cannot listen live. But it is only two hours – definitely not enough! The three ladies who sing are very easy on the eye, did you have to audition them privately!?!?!

Malcolm Tyrie says:

I do hope you can release the best bits for a children in need DVD. If you do then Elio with Albert Lee must be the first pick. Never seen such a fantastic exhibition of guitar and piano and didn’t they have fun doing it. Pleasure to watch what an act!!! So good to see it on the video highlights. Can we have them back? More please.

Albert & Ello Fans says:

Really enjoyed the Elio Pace /Albert Lee clips – such a shame that the video is no longer available.. Have been playing it constantly since we first found it. Perhaps the BBC can make it available again so that we can all continue enjoying it.
